【摘要】:Machiningtestsaremadetodeterminetheworkingqualitiesandcharacteristicsofdifferentspeciesofwoodandofdifferentwoodandwood-basematerialsunderavarietyofmachineoperationssuchasareencounteredincommercialmanufacturingpractice.Thetestsprovideasystematicbasisforcomparingthebehaviorofdifferentspecieswithrespecttowoodworkingmachineoperationsandofevaluatingtheirpotentialsuitabilityforcertainuseswherethesepropertiesareofprimeimportance.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverproceduresforplaning,shaping,turning,mortising,boring,andsanding,allofwhicharecommonwood-workingoperationsusedinthemanufactureofwoodproducts.Thesetestsapply,indifferentdegrees,totwogeneralclassesofmaterials:1.1.1Woodintheformoflumber,and1.1.2Wood-basepanelmaterials.1.2Becauseoftheimportanceofplaning,someofthevariablesthataffecttheresultsofthisoperationareexploredwithaviewtodeterminingoptimumconditions.Inmostoftheothertests,however,itisnecessarytolimittheworktoonesetoffairlytypicalcommercialconditionsinwhichallthedifferentwoodsaretreatedalike.1.3Severalfactorsenterintoanycompleteappraisalofthemachiningpropertiesofagivenwood.Qualityoffinishedsurfaceisrecommendedasthebasisforevaluationofmachiningproperties.Rateofdullingofcuttingtoolsandpowerconsumedincuttingarealsoimportantconsiderationsbutarebeyondthescopeofthesetestmethods.1.4Althoughthemethodspresentedincludetheresultsofprogressivedevelopmentsintheevaluationofmachiningproperties,furtherimprovementsmaybeanticipated.Forexample,bypresentprocedures,qualityofthefinishedsurfaceisevaluatedbyvisualinspection,butasnewmechanicalorphysicaltechniquesbecomeavailablethatwillaffordimprovedprecisionofevaluation,theyshouldbeemployed.1.5Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Themetricequivalentsofinch-poundunitsmaybeapproximate.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
